Federated Farmers has renamed the "Sharemilker Employers' Section" to the "Sharemilker Farm Owners' Section".
Sharemilkers are 'engaged' or contracted by the farm owner to run their farm and the change better reflects the relationship between the farm owner and the sharemilker, as sharemilkers are not employees.
Federated Farmers' Sharemilker Farm Owners' Section chairperson Tony Wilding says both the Sharemilkers and Farm Owners' Sections have recognised that the number of contract milkers out there is increasing and the issues to do with contract milking are similar to sharemilking.
With that in mind, farm owners who engage contract milkers can come to the Sharemilker Farm Owners' Section for advice.
This is in line with the Sharemilkers' Section, which now also supports contract milkers.
