She’s one big trailer!

Written by  Mark Daniel

Local makers of high capacity tipping trailers have some way to go to keep up with Irish manufacturers.

Among the latest trailers made by Smyth Trailers, County Carlow, Ireland, is a four axle monster headed for a big farm in the US.

Robinson Farms, New Mexico, already runs ten, tri-axle Smyth silage trailers. Now comes this new 70 cu.m goliath. It measures 9.7 m long, has a 2.75 m wide body, overall width of 3 m, weighs 11 tonnes and has capacity of 36t.

Specifications include Distag forced steering on the front and rear axles, all shod with 600/55-26.5 heavy duty BKT tyres.

The unit has an air/hydraulic braking system, hydraulic actuated parking jack and front down panel, and a Lincoln automated greasing system.

The trailer needs an oil supply of 70 L to extend the single, multi-stage ram to it full height.

The price tag? $115,000 (€65,000).
