Farming Leader Katie Milne Steps into Politics for National
Former Federated Farmers president Katie Milne is National’s candidate for the West Coast- Tasman seat in this year’s general election.
OPINION: The Hound understands that National’s newly minted agriculture spokesman David Bennett is in a long-distance relationship with Bridget McKenzie, a senator from Victoria in the Australian Federal Parliament.
She was former deputy leader of the Australian National Party and Minster of Agriculture in the coalition government under PM Scott Morrison.
Unfortunately, in the lead-up to Australia’s 2019 election, McKenzie oversaw a controversial $100 million grant program that led to claims of pork-barrelling.
An investigation found these allocations went disproportionately to marginal electorates held by the coalition or to electorates that the coalition was targeting and McKenzie subsequently resigned as Minister for Agriculture.
Your old mate suggests Bennett may want to steer clear of any pork barrel politics if he wants a long-term career – unlike his girlfriend!
