Not so GE-free

Written by

The Hound had to shake his head at the performance of the Hastings District Council (HDC) and the debacle it had in managing – or is that mismanaging? – the water in Havelock North.

The outbreak of E.coli in the town’s drinking water and the resulting gastroenteritis (GE) left thousands of residents sick and having to boil water before drinking it. Now you’d think that getting the quality of drinking water right would be a local council’s top priority. But, oh no -- not HDC. It has been busy on far more important things (not) like declaring the region a GE-free zone. The joke is that while HDC has been focussing on stupid things like this it has dropped the ball and ironically left the region the most GE (gastroenteritis) prominent area in the country.
