False optimism?

Written by

New Zealand First is again batting for dairy farmers.

Party leader Winston Peters says it is sad to see the Global Dairy Trade price index falling 5.7% since December 20. He’s not happy with the positive outlook hummed by some analysts. “Farmers have heard enough of the false optimism before, and weathered the sad reality, so they will have learned to be cautious about these Pollyanna-like experts blowing smoke,” says Peters. But with a forecast milk price of $6/kgMS, most farmers are much better off than at this time last year and the year before.
