Oz fresh milk warning

Written by

Could Australia soon be importing milk from New Zealand?

Yes, say some beleaguered Australian dairy farmers; they recently warned a Senate inquiry this could be the outcome of the crisis enveloping their dairy industry.

Voluntary group Farmer Power has joined calls for a A50 cent/L levy on milk to help farmers struggling against the pricing policies of big supermarkets and the clawback schemes of Murray Goulburn and Fonterra.

Farmer Power argues that raising the supermarket price of 1L of milk from $A1 to $A1.50 would return it to 1980s levels.
