HELPING FARMERS and growers better manage on-farm waste is the aim of a new regional council survey being undertaken in Waikato and Bay of Plenty.
The project, running for three months, will involve consultancy firm GHD talking to around 80 farmers and growers in the two regions.
Information gained will add to that gathered in a similar survey in Canterbury.
"The idea is to build a national picture of waste generated on rural properties and the potential opportunities for beneficial reuse," said Waikato Regional Council waste minimisation facilitator Marianna Tyler.
"Ultimately, the main purpose of the surveys is to find out how regional councils can better support farmers to manage their waste in practical, cost effective and sustainable ways."
