Police tractor ploughs on

The police tractor at Northern field days. The police tractor at Northern field days.

The New Holland police tractor hit the roads in 2015, the brainchild of then New Holland operations manager Kyle Baxter (now C B Norwood brand manager) and police inspector Paul Carpenter.

They saw it as a good way to generate public interest and get the police talking to people in rural communities.

Senior-sergeant Alasdair Macmillan says, “the New Holland tractor has exceeded our expectations, allowing us to play a larger part in local field days and giving us new opportunities to engage with the public”.

“Formerly at field days our site used to struggle to attract an audience, but now the public are intrigued and stop to ask us what the tractor is used for, which is exactly what we want.

“Many conversations end up in us getting information on criminal activity, which gives us a lot of useful insight into issues facing each community.”

So far in 2017 the tractor has traveled the South Island, attending eight events since January and visiting many towns from Queenstown to Oamaru.
