Krone's XDisc 710 direct-cut header can now be used by John Deere and New Holland forage harvesters, as well as the Krone Big X it was originally designed for.

Initially released in 2024, the Krone XDisc 710 had a design brief of short set-up times and operational reliability.

The 7.1 metre cutting width is a useful upgrade from the original XDisc 620’s 6.2m working width.

While the first XDisc 710 units had an integrated transport chassis to work exclusively with Krone’s Big X foragers, that has now been replaced with a dedicated transport wagon.

The header units feature two Krone EasyCut mower cutter bars, rigidly connected to each other and incorporating drive shafts to a central input gearbox. Each cutter bar is connected to an angular gearbox for positive-drive transmission that the manufacturer says results in a very consistent cut, even at high throughputs, which in turn helps ensure optimum chop quality.

Maintaining a consistent crop flow to the forager’s cutter-head, a 900mm diameter auger, height adjustable conveyor system, can be adjusted to match the intake housing speed using a three-speed gearbox. An internal, star ratchet clutch is said to reliably protect the auger conveyor against overloads.

On request, the XDisc 710 can be fitted with a crop press roller and side-mounted cutting blades, the former to optimise crop flow in heavy crops and the latter to cut entangled crops cleanly to minimise losses.

Krone claims to have minimised maintenance requirements and extended service life through the inclusion of a positive-mode chain drive with an active central lubrication unit.

The newly developed transport wagon has EU type-approval for a maximum authorised speed of 40kph, featuring as standard an integrated overrun brake, an automatic reverse function and a full lighting system. A two-axle design is aimed at stable handling and good tracking performance, even on tight bends, alongside the header’s unique top-mounting on the transport wagon for ease of use.

Four feeder housing mounting brackets are designed to maintain high ground clearance, incorporating hydraulic height adjustment, which also allows easy adaption to harvesters with smaller diameter tyre equipment, or non-standard configuration layouts.
