A crate with no beer

Written by  Mark Daniel
A range of tasks can be carried out safely. A range of tasks can be carried out safely.

The Irish seem to have a knack for tackling and solving problems with no-nonsense ideas.

For example, the Allingham QuadCrate, a modular carrier for ATVs, developed onfarm for some years, allows a range of tasks to be carried out safely.

Whether it’s to move a few bales, chemical containers or fencing materials, or just give the farm dog a safe ride, all bases seem to be covered.

Manufactured from galvanised steel, the unit is foldable and easily configured to provide carriers, toolboxes or a stock crate set-up; it will prove useful for jobs that don’t warrant the use of a trailer, or where the terrain is too much for something trailed.

The QuadCrate mounts on the towball coupling at the rear of the ATV, and a suspension bracket mounts on the ATV’s rear carrying frame; it is easily removed if you do want to use a trailer.

Capacity is 200kg depending on the ATV model.

Options include extensions, wire unroller frames or lamb boxes.

William Allingham suggests the units are designed to carry -- and equally importantly balance -- the load, improving safety, and is rather more convenient than always having to tow a trailer around the farm.

Whether the dog prefers riding in the crate to perching up top remains to be seen, but he should get to the job without falling off.
