Bugger!

Written by  The Hound

Your old mate is informed that a well-known machinery editor rather enjoys going to general auctions on a Saturday morning, while his better half does the weekly grocery shopping.

Around six years ago, our hero bid on a box of 100 medical face masks – he thought they’d be ideal for DIY and weed spraying – which he picked up for $5, or 20 cents each.

However, when our Welsh mate went to collect his booty, he discovered that he’d actually bid on a carton containing 100 boxes – so 10,000 items! A couple of years later, he sold about 20 boxes at a fundraiser for a $1 each – with the remainder going to the dump.

Fast forward to March 2020 and face masks now cost $4.50 each. So that carton our man picked up at that auction a few years back, at today’s prices would be worth $45k. As they say: ‘Bugger’!
