Fonterra cements position as the big cheese!
Fonterra has cemented its position as the country’s number one cheesemaker by picking up nine NZ Champion of Cheese trophies this year.
Former Fonterra director and DairyNZ chairman Michael Spaans has passed away.
A tweetfrom Fonterra’s official twitter account said the industry has lost “a close friend, leader and advocate of our industry much too soon”.
“Our thoughts and deep gratitude for all that Michael contributed go to the Spaans family.”
Spaans stepped down from the Fonterra board last year due to poor health. He remained chairman of DairyNZ.
Spaans farmed at Te Aroha and also had farming interests in the South Island, Chile and the US.
A year on and the problems created by Cyclones Hale and Gabrielle has largely dropped off the radar of media and politicians.
