Seed drills offer many options

Written by  Mark Daniel

The new Espro 6000 RC seed drill offers two separate metering and distribution systems on one universal seed drill package to provide a choice of field operations for arable work.

For instance, being able to deliver fertiliser under-root while seeding, as well as dose and place a second type of seed.

The fertiliser or second seed variety is delivered by disc coulters behind the working discs and directly in front of the offset packer roller.

The coulters, adjustable in depth, are located precisely between two seed rows each. In this way, the fertiliser can be positioned at an exact distance from the seeds. Thus, the seedlings are supported at the early growth stages without risk of burning.

Moreover, two different seeds can be delivered at distinct depths, allowing the simultaneous establishment of a main crop with an under-sown crop as well as for seeding cover crop mixes. If required, the two varieties can be metered separately but delivered together in the seed row.

The seed/fertiliser hopper is partitioned in two parts. But a clever hatch system allows the farmer to use the full hopper capacity of 5500L to seed one single main crop.

The Espro 6000 RC is claimed to need less tractor power because of its specific packer roller design, precise seed placement at high speeds and even emergence achieved by the Crossflex coulter bar.

Simple adjustments, automated headland turn management and user-friendly terminals (VT or CCI 200) and ISOBUS compatibility make the machine easy to set up and operate.

The range is also expanded with the introduction of the Espro 4000 R models (working width 4m). Its foldable design comprises two rows of discs followed by a row of tyres and the new Crossflex coulter bar; it is fitted with the innovations of the ESPRO 3000 and 6000R seed drills already on the market.

The large diameter wheels (900 mm) have an exclusive profile, offset and tyres with a deep tread pattern ideal for seed bed tilling.

The Crossflex seeding bar is said to ensure homogeneous emergence and quality seeding owing to the hold of the polyurethane mounts fitted on the cross-shaped sectional tube, for improved ground following.

With a power requirement of at least 140hp, this fast, versatile seed drill can place a large variety of seeds at high speeds and be used with any crop management methods.

It can also be fitted with optional front press wheels with in-cab pressure adjustment.
