False claim?

Another dairy company, with partial Chinese ownership, is under fire for claiming the Government’s wage subsidy during COVID-19.

Mataura is backed by Chinese state-owned enterprise China Animal Husbandry Group, New Zealand company Bodco and local and farmer shareholders.

Mataura has also ruffled Fonterra’s feathers: it claimed $616,000 for 88 employees choosing not to process Fonterra milk.

The reason; it claims Fonterra has lower safety controls. The co-op isn’t impressed.

Massey University Wiltshire trial draws growing farmer interest

Farmer interest continues to grow as a Massey University research project to determine the benefits or otherwise of the self-shedding Wiltshire sheep is underway. The project is five years in and has two more years to go. It was done mainly in the light of low wool prices and the cost of shearing. Peter Burke recently went along to the annual field day held Massey's Riverside farm in the Wairarapa.

Rural health programme inspires new optometry graduate
