Peters Targets Fonterra

Written by  Milking It

OPINION: Get offside with New Zealand First leader Winston Peters at your own peril.

That's what Fonterra is finding out after NZF's new dairy policy that would force Fonterra to supply tenfold the amount of raw milk to its competitors than it currently has to.

The 'use it or lose it' policy would give qualifying manufacturers investing in new value-added dairy production access to up to 500 million litres of Fonterra milk per year for 10 years, by lifting existing regulatory settings tenfold from the current 50 million litres.

Peters was a sharp critic of Fonterra's $4.2b sale of its consumer business to Lactalis.

His message is clear, "Fonterra has made its choice. Now New Zealand must make our choice."
