Meanwhile the Aorangi Regional Final for The National Bank Young Farmer Contest is to be held alongside The North Otago A&P Show this Saturday (February 25).
Eight of the best Young Farmers from right across the Aorangi Region will be competing in four different challenges during the Practical Day at the North Otago A&P Showgrounds before they head to the Evening Show to answer the big questions at the Oamaru Opera House.
The country is coming to town in Dunedin from May 23-27 as New Zealand Young Farmers, contestants, supporters and sponsors roll into town for The Ultimate Rural Challenge. Members of the public can now book their ring side seats as the grand finalists battle it out in physical and theoretical tests that will push them to their limits as they vie for the coveted title of Contest Champion 2012.
The week kicks off with the official opening at Wall Street Mall from 12.30pm, on Wednesday, May 23 then things get serious on Thursday for the Technical Day at Invermay Research Centre in Mosgiel. From 8am the contestants will make presentations, face interview panels and be tested in human resource challenges. The public can also watch the NZYF National Fencing and Stock Judging Competitions here too. 'The Great Outdoors' themed Speeches Dinner rounds off the Technical Day at the Edgar Centre.
The Forsyth Barr Stadium will be transformed on Friday for the Practical Day and there really is something for everyone: check out the Farmer's Market for some great local produce and treats, watch the AgriKidsNZ and TeenAg Competitors battle it out in their Grand Finals, see NZYF Members in the Tug of War and of course watch the top seven Young Farmers in New Zealand as they inch one step closer to being named the Contest Champion for 2012.
Cameras will be rolling on Saturday night at the Grand Final Televised Evening Show where the 2012 Contest Champion will be announced. The show will screen live on TVNZ 7 followed by a repeat later on TV One. After the show the audience is invited to stay on and celebrate with the Contest Champion at the Celebration Ball.
The TBfree New Zealand Young Farmers 2012 National Conference will also take place during the week. Attendees will go on a bus trip, watch competitions, attend workshops and more. NZYF Members can purchase conference packages through the event finder website.
