Vintage farm equipment on show

Written by

The Manawatu Vintage Ag Expo is being held on February 4 and 5 at Lockwood Rd Kaiaranga.

The Manawatu Vintage Machinery Club held a similar event in Feilding in 2009 which was well supported by enthusiasts and the public.

It is the opportunity to see agriculture as it used to be with displays of tractors, stationery engines, classic trucks, grain threshing, hay baling and a wide range of the working machinery.

Much of the equipment on display will be restored to as new condition.

There will be continuous programme of parades for tractors, implements and trucks, haybaleing and topdressing demonstrations will also feature.

Marking 100 years since the International Harvester Company was formed in New Zealand will be a display of trucks featuring the International Harvester brand with magnificently restored models dating back to the 1920s.

A horse team will be working, and three traction engines will also be operating with the stationery threshing mill being driven by one.

A wide range of stationary engines will on display driving the equipment that was used before electricity was available on farms.

Exhibitors from around the Lower North Island will be joined by a group of Waikato enthusiasts who will be driving their tractors down for the event, the trip taking several days.

Food will be on sale and tents and marquees will be available for those wishing to take a break.
