App gives farmers more insight

WHOLE-HERD MATING data on hand, via a mobile app from CRV Ambreed, helps farmers manage their herds anytime, the company says.

 

CRV’s Insight-Mobile, said to be the first of its kind in New Zealand, is reckoned easy to use, convenient and smoothes data management.

West Coast farmer Esther Sullivan says it is a faster and more practical way to handle information. “I have all mating information on hand so I can tell immediately by the calving date the sire of a calf, instead of the old system of stickers in notebooks with the cow’s last recorded mating and due date.

“Also, as I do my own AI with Insight-Mobile, I can input all information at the shed as I inseminate.  I can also dry off my herd (as a whole, in groups or individually), tag my heifers (or any other animal) and record empty cows in the shed as the vet pregnancy tests.”

Sullivan says if she is outside the coverage area – and most of her farm is – all the information she records is saved ready to sync when she’s back on wi-fi. 

CRV Ambreed product manager Henk Huurnink says 130 farms now use the app.
