Set up in in Corwen, North Wales in 1958, the company is this year celebrating its 60th birthday but more importantly its 750,000th trailer from its production lines.
It employs 500 people at its original Corwen site and three other facilities in the region; 30% of production is exported to Russia, Japan, Africa, Australia and NZ.
The company makes 600-700 trailers each week -- an extensive range for livestock, general purpose, tipping, plant, flat-bed, car-transport, box vans and horse floats; about 1000 variants make up the offering.
All units are fitted with beam axles and leaf spring suspension layouts, for carrying ability and durability; the company says it offers back-up for all its products regardless of age.
Ifor Williams also makes specialised and customisable trailers for transport, notably for shipping rally cars. For example, the rallying specialist M-Sport, which runs the Ford World Rally Team, moves its cars in Ifor Williams-supplied Transporta Range trailers.
Towed by 28 tonne trucks, the trailers are used to ship cars and spare parts to all parts of Europe, e.g. testing in the Arctic Circle and The Rally of Corsica in the Mediterranean.
