Alliance's Pure South cuts win gold
Meat co-operative Alliance Group has bagged four gold medals at the Outstanding NZ Food Producer Awards, achieving top honours for every cut entered.
New Zealand champion rowers Storm Uru and Nathan Cohen have got on board with Alliance Group's global export brand, Pure South, to help promote New Zealand lamb offshore.
The two Southland rowers, who have both been selected with their respective crews in the New Zealand team for London, lent their support to a brand promotion for Pure South lamb at Lake Karapiro recently.
Cohen, who will pair with Joseph Sullivan in the double sculls in London, said that beef and lamb was a key part of his diet when preparing for races, and as a Southlander, he was keen to support Alliance Group's efforts to promote the Pure South export brand.
"New Zealand is known around the world for creating genuine quality, whether that's food, movies or our sporting talents. So I'm happy to help Alliance Group out promoting top-quality meat from our farms to markets all over the world."
Uru, who will row in the Men's Lightweight Double Sculls with Peter Taylor at the Games, said he enjoyed teaming up with Cohen even though the two don't row together.
"As a Southlander, I appreciate how important lamb and beef exports are to our farmers and to the country. On top of that, I enjoy eating New Zealand lamb whenever I'm home, and whenever I can when travelling overseas."
Murray Brown, Alliance Group marketing manager, said the company saw a strong fit between its work in promoting and exporting New Zealand's premium lamb to the world, and the two rowers, who are part of New Zealand's world-renowned elite rowing programme.
"We are really excited to have had this involvement with the two rowers as they embark on one of the greatest challenges in their rowing careers," said Mr Brown.
Alliance Group has also been working with the New Zealand rowing team nutritionist and will supply a range of Pure South products to the team in the lead-up to, and during, their upcoming Games campaign in London. This will include New Zealand lamb and beef to help power the New Zealand rowers to top performances in the Games regatta.
"We are providing some top quality beef and lamb so the team can enjoy a taste of home on the other side of the world, while getting the right nutrition on board for their training and race preparations," Brown said.
The rowing team will receive boneless beef fillet, sirloin steaks and a range of high-valued lamb cuts, which will be prepared for the team during their campaign in London.
